Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Lake Highland Preparatory School Curriculum Map website!

We are pleased to open our maps to our parents. What you will see represents a broad and in-depth process of instructional planning that spans 14 grades and 8 subject disciplines. The maps you will see for every class and course taught at LHPS are one-dimensional and, as you can imagine, cannot capture the rich, multi-dimensional curriculum we teach.

What the maps do highlight are the core topics and skills taught in each course and grade: the "macro" picture. In addition, the maps are dynamic reflecting our ongoing curriculum work; as we identify needed changes through the course of the year, we then make those changes on our maps which are updated automatically.

Each map is an outline of the content and skills that aligns with our LHPS standards. Some of our courses are planned collaboratively by two or more teachers and some are planned and taught individually. Please note that these maps do not dictate a firm timeline for teaching but rather an approximate one. As the year progresses and as the teachers begin to respond to the particular needs of their classes, the timelines may begin to vary somewhat from teacher to teacher and from beginning to end of the school year. Any need for exact dates, times and other details-the "micro" picture- can be found on a teacher's homework page and in the individual student's agenda. In addition to timeline differences between teachers, teachers may also teach topics and skills differently. We encourage this. These differences in the "how" and "when" of what is taught are some of the professional decisions our teachers make everyday as they differentiate and adjust their instruction to provide an effective and engaging educational experience for the students in their individual classes.

  1. To begin click on the BROWSE icon above.
  2. You may then choose to search by clicking on a Grade Level, Subject or Teacher.
    • "Teacher List" refers to a team of teachers who designed the map.
    • When searching by Grade Level in the US, many courses are grouped under "Upper School" due to the course being open to multiple grade levels.
  3. Then click on the Course link that you would like to view.

If you have a question regarding our curriculum, you may contact the teacher by clicking on the teacher name link at the top of the course map or you may contact any of our Directors or me.
